Appeal to the American People and their Representatives
Sunday 1 April 2007
According to the democratic principles, political representatives are responsible for adhering to the needs of their constituents but the constituents are responsible to speak up about the actions that the representatives take. The government of the United States carried out unprecedented attack which caused serious human, moral material losses to the Somali people. Its military intervention endangers the existence of our people, who are on the brink of genocide. Therefore, the American people should voice their opposition to their representatives.
1. The United States government entered unilaterally the conflict in the Somali Republic, which is already ravaged by two decades of civil war without declaration of war and valid reason with indiscriminate attack and disproportional power.
2. It has brutalized the country under pretext of anti-terrorist laws and wasted a unique opportunity to restore the statehood, law, order, peace in the Horn of Africa.
3. After having failed to use the infamous ‘warlords’ against the people, the United States found no other way of accomplishing its goals than inviting Ethiopia to invade the country, an arch-enemy of Somalia after having destroyed as preliminary, by the air raids, what we have as defense. Thus, we cannot understand the interest it has or the pleasure United States can gain from this conflict.
4. The United States knowingly caused the famine and new exodus worse than the previous one by blocking the sea while Ethiopian forces deliberately disrupt the lines of provisioning on the ground to frustrate Somali people. Consequently, by ensuring political, military and logistic support and in addition by giving diplomatic protection. The Ethiopian army has committed war crimes, massacres, plundering and plunders, rapes,, and murders, etc. In fact, the United States assumes the total responsibility for the sufferings inflicted to the defenseless civil population.
That is why we call upon the American people and their representatives:
1. To condemn and order the immediate suspension of the aggression and the withdrawal of the American forces from Somalia and its territorial waters.
2. To put an end to the military, and the logistical support to the Ethiopian occupying forces.
3. To rather put their immense resources to the service of a fair and lasting peace in the Horn of Africa; and to search for a political agreement between the two countries.
4. To send a fact finding committee to asses the damage caused to this poor people for reparation.
5. Last but not least, to finally bring humanitarian aid to Somalia.
PS: Message to the Somali and peace loving people
We urge somali people and peace loving people wherever they are to write to their local M.P, communities representatives, Senate, Congress, U.N, A.U, E.U and others human right agencies in order to bring attention to the devastating situation in the Horn of Africa and ask for immediate action.
